Sacred Heart Martire Arena

The Fairfield Skating Club Edge

The Fairfield Skating Club offers programs at the new Sacred Heart University Martire Family Arena for skaters of all ages and abilities following the national, standardized Learn to Skate USA curriculum. This curriculum is founded in solid and fun skill progression. To give skaters an edge  in learning how to skate, and based on years of practical top-quality programming experience and class design, classes will prioritize time with instructors. This will help give ample time to prompt skaters on proper technique, taking into account their individual skating level, all while looking to avoid unintentional bad habits from forming during individual practice. All group classes will include:

  • 35 minute small group instruction
  • 5 minute practice, 5 minute group warm-up before start of class, and
  • 5 minute practice after class

Class descriptions are below, if you are unsure of which class to register in, contact us and we can help find the appropriate class.

Snowplow Sam

Designed for preschool-age skaters between three and five years of age, this class develops preliminary coordination and strength to move around on the ice. The introductory classes are divided into four progressive levels for kids with no prior skating experience to build confidence in skating and themselves. Fun and games make this positive experience for your kids enjoyable and memorable. (Ages 3-5)

Basic Skills

The first stage of skills forms a strong foundation for your skaters age six and above to explore the world of skating. All will progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. Active Start encourages skaters to trade in hesitation for excitement as they grow a love for skating. FUNdamentals harness those skills as agility, balance, coordination and speed become the main focus of this curriculum. (Ages 6+)
