Meet The Team
Owner and director, Kristina Staal, brings over twenty years experience from the heart of Canada as an ice skating coach, and program director of one of the largest regional skating schools spanning ten arenas, over one hundred staff, and thousands of yearly participants. Kristina's experience also included bringing together an OHL sponsored skating program for underprivileged youth, a unique special needs autism skaters and coaches program and coached for the special olympics figure skating.
The vision of the Fairfield Skating Club is to create a world-class skating club and school by combining all the years of in-depth experience, lessons learned, and best practices from the heart of Canada, with the national Learn to Skate USA curriculum. Our mission is to share and foster the passion for skating and ice sports with the community.
Kristina brings over twenty years experience coaching ice skating and directing skating programs. Her passion for skating started with figure skating, and progressed into coaching, head coaching, directing and community program entrepreneurship. Given her lifelong dedication to ice sports, the rink has become a second home, she has helped countless other skaters and coaches flourish in their passion for the sport, and has been an integral part of the local community. Kristina is excited to bring her background to Fairfield and the surrounding area.
Nick played competitive and travel hockey in both Canada and the US, as defense and forward, played in the US Nationals for the Washington Little Capitals, and met and was hired by Kristina in college as a Learn to Skate instructor. To confirm Nick’s skating competency was sufficient for marriage, Nick and Kristina did pairs ice dance together; Nick learned that ice dance wasn’t something you just do after a goal in hockey. Nick has a keen interest in teaching current and future hockey players the key benefits and importance of skating technique, which he learned early on from specialized power skating camps run by well known Olympic figure skating competitors.
